Hi everyone,
I was just in the office, working on one of the EServer workstations, when suddenly the power went off in our office. Our battery backups worked as they're supposed to, keeping the workstations on while they (automatically) shut themselves down. But I'd never seen this happen in person, and was surprised and unhappy. (This was unscheduled downtime.)
I reported the problem to the university maintenance team, and they sent a worker within 15 minutes. He found that work in another office had 'popped' the circuit breaker which also powers our office, and reset it for us. All our servers are back online now, and were down for fewer than 30 minutes, total. I'm sorry it happened—though, admittedly, somewhat reassured that the system worked as it should have.
Apologies for the downtime. I've worked in this office for thirteen years, and this is the first time I've ever seen anything like this happen. We'll see if we can go another thirteen years before anything like it happens again.
